Studies on bats
Know and understand
The Morcegos.PT Association conducts comprehensive studies on bats, focusing on their ecology, behavior, and distribution. These investigations include monitoring colonies, habitat analysis, and the impact of environmental and human factors on bat populations. The data collected is essential for informing effective conservation strategies and increasing scientific knowledge about these vital mammals. Through these studies, the association aims to promote the protection and preservation of bats and the ecosystems in which they live.

We offer a wide range of expertise on bat-related issues, from identifying sensitive species to assessing habitat risks. Our team has extensive experience, having successfully planned, coordinated, and completed hundreds of bat monitoring projects. These projects have involved the development of training materials, data sheets, research protocols, and communication guidelines for biologists and remotely based technicians.
Research in the Service of Conservation
Bats are a key group for maintaining ecosystem balance, yet they remain poorly understood and are often subject to prejudice. Morcegos.pt promotes and supports scientific and technical studies on Portuguese chiropterans, contributing to a deeper understanding of their biology, ecology, and threats. In the column beside, you can find the research areas we are developing.

Participation in Research Projects
Morcegos.pt actively participates in national and international projects, involving researchers, students, volunteers, and local communities. These studies often lead to scientific publications, technical reports, and recommendations for conservation policies.

Knowledge that Inspires Action
By studying bats, we gain the tools to protect them. We invite everyone — researchers, students, and citizens — to explore the fascinating world of these flying mammals.
