Adopt a bat

A symbolic way to protect the guardians of the night

Did you know that a single bat can eat thousands of insects in just one night? These small flying mammals play a vital role in maintaining ecosystems and supporting agriculture, yet they continue to be unfairly feared and overlooked.

With the “Adopt a Bat” program, you can contribute directly to the protection of these fascinating species in Portugal — in a symbolic, educational, and meaningful way.

What does it mean to adopt a bat?

Adopting a bat is a symbolic gesture: you won’t be taking the animal home, but you will be supporting the work of the Morcegos.pt Association in the field — from protecting shelters and habitats to environmental education and scientific research.

What you receive with your adoption:

🦇 A personalized adoption certificate
📘 An information sheet about the adopted species
📸 A photo of the bat or represented colony
📰 A newsletter with updates and fun facts about bats

The adoption requires a symbolic contribution, starting at €15, and can be made in your name or offered as a unique and eco-friendly gift.

How to adopt:

  1. Choose the species or colony you wish to support

  2. Send us your details by email: morcegos.pt@gmail.com

  3. Make your donation via bank transfer

  4. Receive your digital adoption kit within 5 business days

Species available for adoption:

Miniopterus schreibersii

(Schreibers's bat)

Plecotus austriacus

(Grey long-eared bat)

Myotis myotis
(Greater mouse-eared bat)

Other species may be available depending on the time of year and ongoing projects.
